Recently, I have returned to playing volleyball, albeit on the beach and with different codes of conduct (no high fives or helping each other up) than is typically indicative of teams. It’s been challenging to both focus on renewing the skills of the game on a surface I’ve mostly avoided for a couple decades AND be fully present to a new way of interacting with teammates. That means consciously not acting out of habit every time a play ends. Imagine the consciousness you will be employing when you return to the office in some allocated amount of people with new protocols? Being present is more important than ever. Did you add in a meditation practice in the last year? If not, now is a good time to build resilience through quieting your mind for small windows of time each day. Close your eyes, take 5 deep breaths thinking about nothing but your intake and outflow of air. Build that practice to 3 minutes of conscious breathing and watch how much more present you are. You got this!
