It’s my favorite month of the year – where gratitude and Thanks-giving dominate! I love pausing to consider all the people in my life who have influenced me over the year, sending positive thoughts and appreciation to them both out loud and in my mind.

It’s also an opportunity to appreciate the world we live in, and the people who confuse me, frustrate me, or perhaps even infuriate me. At the core of each of us is a soul, a desire for connection, and a commonality of being human. The more difficult pause is to appreciate those who think so differently than I do, who communicate in ways that are hard for me to understand, and those who hurt other living beings.

This year I challenge all of us to consider how we are more the same than different, sending warm thoughts or prayers to the people who aren’t like you, or whom you don’t like. Practice empathy, as all great leaders do, in spreading love and warmth among the whole population. I know we can change the world with one small kind word and deed.

Happy Thanksgiving!
